The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Council, on Sunday congratulated Professor Muazu Shehu on his swearing-in as the new Head of the Civil Service of Gombe State, describing his appointment as well deserved.
The union also felicitated the newly sworn-in commissioners, members of the Gombe State Executive Council, special advisers to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, and the newly appointed permanent secretary.
In a statement issued and jointly signed by the Chairman of the council, Faruk Muazu, and the Secretary, Shuaibu Umar, the NUJ said the appointments reflected the governor’s commitment to strengthening governance and advancing the state’s development agenda.
The statement read in part, “The Council views these appointments as a clear demonstration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to strengthening governance and positioning capable hands to drive the administration’s development agenda forward. We commend the Governor for assembling a team with proven experience, integrity and dedication to service.”
Congratulating the new Head of Service, the union expressed confidence in his ability to provide effective leadership for the state’s civil service.
“To Professor Muazu Shehu, we say your elevation to the pinnacle of the state civil service is well deserved. Your wealth of knowledge and experience gives us confidence that you will provide purposeful leadership, promote professionalism, and ensure greater efficiency in the bureaucracy,” the statement added.
The NUJ charged the newly appointed commissioners and members of the Executive Council to regard their appointments as a call to selfless service, stressing that the people of Gombe expected transparency, inclusiveness and tangible results from the new administration team.
“We urge you to see your appointments as a call to service. The people of Gombe expect results, transparency and inclusiveness. We encourage you to work closely with stakeholders, including the media, to ensure government policies and programmes are effectively communicated to the public,” the union stated.
The council also congratulated the special advisers and the new permanent secretary, expressing optimism that they would bring innovation and diligence to their respective offices.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting good governance, the NUJ pledged continued collaboration with the state government while maintaining the ethics of journalism.
“As partners in the development of Gombe State, the NUJ Gombe Council reaffirms its commitment to collaborate with government at all levels. We will continue to uphold the ethics of journalism while providing accurate information that will promote good governance and unity in the state,” the statement noted.
The union prayed for wisdom, good health and divine guidance for the appointees and called on residents of the state to support them in the interest of Gombe’s growth and development.
