The Gombe State Police Command has impounded 121 vehicles and prosecuted 114 motorists for violating the National Road Traffic Regulations as part of an ongoing enforcement exercise aimed at enhancing security across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Gombe, saying the operation targets vehicles operating with covered, concealed, altered, defaced or without registration number plates.
According to the police commissioner, the enforcement exercise, which commenced on June 16, 2026, is designed to improve vehicle identification and strengthen public safety.
“The Gombe State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with covered, defaced, concealed, altered and those without registration number plates,” Chuso said.
“This enforcement exercise is a proactive security measure aimed at improving vehicle identification and strengthening public safety.”
He revealed that since the exercise began, “the Command has impounded a total of 121 vehicles, while 114 offenders have been prosecuted for offences contrary to Section 67(1) of the National Road Traffic Regulations and Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act, 2012.”
The police boss urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations by ensuring their vehicles are properly registered and their number plates are clearly displayed at all times.
“I therefore urge all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and their registration number plates are properly affixed and clearly visible at all times,” he added.
The command said the enforcement drive would continue as part of broader efforts to curb crime and improve security across Gombe State.
