A group of prominent stakeholders from Gombe State has endorsed the governorship ambition of Dr Jamil-Isyaku Gwamna ahead of the 2027 election, describing him as their preferred candidate to fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The endorsement was announced on Sunday at a Gombe State Stakeholders’ Engagement held in Abuja and chaired by the Special Adviser on General Duties to the Vice President, Dr. Aliyu-Modibbo Umar.

According to a statement issued by Gwamna’s spokesperson, Ibrahim-Sani Shawai, the meeting attracted a cross-section of Gombe indigenes, including former ministers, retired military officers, former permanent secretaries, retired ambassadors, professors, business leaders, administrators and young professionals.
The stakeholders said they endorsed Gwamna after deliberating on the political future of the state and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The statement said the forum unanimously backed Gwamna’s governorship aspiration, expressing confidence in his “leadership capacity, vision, and commitment to advancing the peace, prosperity, and sustainable development of Gombe State.”
It added that participants reaffirmed that the Gombe State Stakeholders’ Engagement would remain a voluntary consultative platform established to complement the efforts of the APC, the Gombe State Government, elected officials and other political actors, rather than operate as a parallel political structure.
The stakeholders also approved the establishment of Political and Technical Directorates to coordinate stakeholder engagement, policy development, research, political mobilisation and strategic communication.
In addition, the meeting constituted a High-Powered Reconciliation and Stakeholders’ Engagement Committee to reconcile former aspirants and their supporters, strengthen party unity and foster cohesion ahead of the governorship election.
The forum further resolved to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 11 local government areas, wards and polling units, encourage voter registration and civic participation, and promote issue-based politics built on competence, integrity, inclusiveness and evidence-based planning.
The stakeholders expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the meeting would strengthen support for the APC and contribute to sustained peace, stability and development in Gombe State.
Responding to the endorsement, Gwamna thanked the stakeholders for the vote of confidence.
“Your endorsement strengthens our resolve to remain focused, disciplined, and people-oriented in our mission. Together, we will ensure that development is not only continued but expanded to reach every community, every household, and every citizen,” he said.
The statement described the endorsement by former public office holders, military officers, diplomats, academics, business leaders and professionals as a significant vote of confidence in Gwamna’s leadership and vision for the future of Gombe State.
