Bishop Onaiyekan said President Tinubu tried to tell us, Catholics and Nigerians, that he heard us. Then he said the line that should worry all of us: “all is fair in politics.”
That sentence is dangerous.
When the nation is bl£ding, “all is fair” is not strategy. It is an excuse. It tells citizens that pain can be managed with propaganda, that hardship can be spun, that truth is negotiable once power is involved.
We did not go to Aso Rock for political theory. We went with empty stomachs, unpaid salaries, closed schools, and hospital bills we cannot pay. We said: Nigerians are suff£ring. The answer we got was: “all is fair in politics.”
Politics without conscience is fraud. Governance without empathy is cruelty.
If “all is fair,” then who protects the poor? Who speaks for the farmer, the student, the nurse, the trader?
Leadership is not a game where anything goes. It is a covenant. You do not tell grieving people their grief is politics.
Nigeria needs truth, not tactics. Justice, not jingles.
Mourn first. Fix first. Then politics can be fair.
