The Benin Writers’ Society (BWS) has congratulated its President and Founder, Barr. Douglas Ogbankwa, alongside two of its members, Mrs. Tina Osegbowa and Sp. Emmanuel Onwukwe, for emerging as recipients of different categories of the 2026 Starz Awards.

In a statement on Monday, the society described the awards as recognition of excellence, humanitarian service, leadership and commitment to societal development.

The statement said Ogbankwa received the Human Rights Protection Award in recognition of his contributions to justice, the rule of law and the protection of fundamental human rights through his work as a legal practitioner, writer and public advocate.
According to the society, Mrs. Tina Osegbowa was honoured with the Humanitarian Award for her compassion and commitment to supporting widows, orphans, elderly persons and vulnerable families through the Sir Henry Osegbowa Foundation.
It added that Sp. Emmanuel Onwukwe emerged winner of the Impact Award 2026 for his contributions to community development and efforts aimed at creating positive change.
The society described the three awardees as role models whose achievements reflected the values it promotes.
“The Benin Writers’ Society proudly celebrates three outstanding personalities whose dedication to humanity, leadership and service has earned them well-deserved recognition at the Starz Awards 2026,” the statement read.
Commending Ogbankwa, the society said, “His unwavering commitment to justice, the rule of law and the defence of fundamental human rights continues to inspire many. Through his work as a legal practitioner, writer and public advocate, he has consistently championed causes that promote justice, accountability and good governance.”
On Osegbowa, the statement noted, “Her life of compassion and selfless service continues to inspire many. Through the Sir Henry Osegbowa Foundation, she has remained committed to supporting widows, orphans, the elderly, vulnerable families and underserved communities, restoring hope and dignity to countless lives.”
It also praised Onwukwe, saying, “His dedication to making meaningful contributions within the community and his commitment to creating positive change exemplify the true spirit of impactful leadership and service.”
The society said the awards celebrated excellence, compassion and purposeful living, adding that true leadership is measured by the positive impact made in the lives of others.
It wished the award recipients greater accomplishments in the years ahead, expressing confidence that they would continue to inspire service, integrity and excellence.
