This is not democracy. What President Bola Tinubu is administering in Nigeria is a constitutional democratic monarchy.

On paper, we have elections, courts, and a legislature. In practice, we have a President who governs like a king with a constitution as decoration.

The pattern is clear. Dissent is treated as rebellion. Criticism is treated as treason. Institutions that should check power have become an extension of Aso Rock. The National Assembly claps. The Judiciary delays. Governors wait for Abuja’s approval before they breathe.

Money flows up. Orders flow down. The people? They are spectators in their own democracy.

In a monarchy, the crown decides who eats, who speaks, and who survives politically. Today, contracts, appointments, and even party tickets are dispensed by one table. The constitution is quoted only when it serves power, and ignored when it restrains it.

Democracy demands debate, accountability, and power that flows from the people. A constitutional monarchy demands loyalty, silence, and power that flows from the throne.

Nigerians voted for a President, not a monarch. We voted for representation, not royal decrees. We voted for institutions, not one man’s network.

Until we dismantle this “constitutional democratic monarchy” and return power to the people, 2027 will just be another coronation with ballot papers.

The fault is not in our constitution. The fault is in how it is being used.
