“I’m the only billionaire’s child to make a name for himself.” – Davido

Bold. Arrogant. And painfully true to many people who only see the last name and not the labour.

Davido didn’t invent nepotism. He was born into it. But he also didn’t hide behind it. He built a sound, a brand, and a touring machine that puts Nigerian music on global stages. Grammys, sold-out arenas. That is not collateral. That is craft.

The “billionaire’s child” line stings because Nigeria is tired of privilege without proof. We’ve watched too many children of wealth collect titles and do nothing. Davido is the exception people point to, and that is why the pressure on him is heavier.

But let’s be honest: access opened doors. Talent kept them open. DMW, 30BG, signing new artists, giving back during rough times, that’s leadership, not just inheritance.

So is he the “only” one? No. But he’s one of the few who turned “son of” into “Davido.”

The real test for every privileged kid now is simple: use your platform to lift others, or be remembered only for your father’s money.

Davido seems to have chosen the first.
