The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kumo, and the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in healthcare service delivery, manpower development, clinical training, research, and resource sharing.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Information and Public Relations Officer of FMC Kumo, Abubakar Moy. According to the statement, the agreement was signed at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, on Friday, July 31, 2026, and is expected to promote cooperation through the exchange of medical personnel, joint research, capacity building, and the efficient use of equipment and specialised services.
Welcoming the FMC Kumo delegation, the Chief Medical Director of FTH Gombe, Professor Yusuf Muhammad Abdullahi, described the visit as a “homecoming” and an opportunity to deepen the relationship between the two institutions. He expressed confidence in the leadership of the Medical Director of FMC Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shua’bu Ishaq, and said the structures already in place would position the new medical centre for excellence.
Prof. Abdullahi reaffirmed FTH Gombe’s commitment to collaboration, noting that such partnerships support quality healthcare delivery and medical education. He also urged FMC Kumo’s management and pioneer staff to uphold discipline, professionalism, and dedication in building a world-class tertiary health institution.
Responding, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shua’bu Ishaq, described the visit as a “thank-you visit,” acknowledging FTH Gombe’s significant role in the establishment of FMC Kumo. He noted that many of the centre’s pioneer staff were trained at FTH Gombe and said the MoU formalises an already cordial and mutually beneficial relationship.
According to him, the partnership will strengthen cooperation in human resource development, clinical services, residency training, research, academic activities, equipment sharing, and the provision of specialised healthcare services.
The MoU also provides for the exchange of resident doctors and consultants, rotational postings, joint research, knowledge sharing, capacity building, reciprocal use of medical equipment, and regular engagement between the two institutions to facilitate collaboration.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the MoU by Professor Yusuf Muhammad Abdullahi and Dr. Mu’azu Shua’bu Ishaq, alongside the legal representatives of both institutions, marking a new era of strategic partnership aimed at improving tertiary healthcare, medical training, and research in Gombe State.
