The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned members of the public against a fake online recruitment notice claiming that the Commission has commenced the recruitment and training of ad-hoc staff for the 2027 general elections.

The Commission, in a statement issued on Monday, said the recruitment message circulating online was fraudulent and did not originate from INEC.

The fake notice directs prospective applicants to an online platform through a link purporting to be an INEC ad-hoc staff recruitment portal.

INEC described the website as unauthorised, urging Nigerians to disregard the message and avoid clicking on the link or providing personal information through the platform.

“This information is not from INEC,” the Commission said.

According to INEC, the website being circulated is “not an official INEC recruitment portal” and should not be used by members of the public seeking employment as ad-hoc election personnel.

The Commission warned that members of the public could expose themselves to fraud and identity theft by submitting personal details, uploading documents or making payments through the fake platform.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link, submit personal information, upload documents or make any payment through the platform,” INEC cautioned.

The Commission further advised Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels and official website for information concerning recruitment, elections and other official activities.

“INEC’s official recruitment and election-related announcements are published through the Commission’s verified communication channels and official websites,” the statement added.

The Commission also recalled that it had previously warned the public about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements being circulated in its name.

INEC urged members of the public to verify the authenticity of any recruitment information before acting on it, particularly when such information requests personal details or payment.

The Commission appealed to Nigerians to disregard and avoid circulating the false recruitment notice, stressing the need for the public to remain vigilant against online scams ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Stay informed. Stay safe. Always verify before you click,” the Commission advised.
