The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is studying the results of Saturday’s governorship election across the state’s 332 wards and may seek legal redress after consulting its lawyers.
The party disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, following the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party as winner of the poll.
Olabisi said the party was reviewing the results before deciding on its next course of action, stressing that the electoral process did not end with the declaration of a winner.
According to him, the law provides avenues for aggrieved parties to challenge election outcomes through the election tribunal, Court of Appeal and, ultimately, the Supreme Court.
“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities,” Olabisi said.
He said the APC, as a party committed to the rule of law, fairness and justice, would explore the available legal options after consultations with its legal team and consideration of their professional advice.
The party also commended its members and supporters for what it described as their steadfastness, loyalty and contributions to its political activities across the state.
Olabisi urged APC members and supporters to remain calm and refrain from responding to what he described as provocative actions by members of the ruling party.
He further appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect APC members and supporters who, he alleged, were being molested by opposition members.
The spokesperson assured party members that the APC would continue to pursue its cause within the ambit of the law, describing the current political situation in the state as “a passing phase.”
