What I have been able to deduce from this political razzmatazz between the Adelekes and President Tinubu looks like the same script we saw between Gov. Obaseki and President Buhari.
Recall 2020. Gov. Obaseki was disqualified from APC for reelection. He moved to PDP. Yet President Buhari, then the leader of APC, looked the other way. Party interest was sacrificed on the altar of friendship and personal interest. The center refused to hold the line.
Some time ago Gov. Adeleke reached out to APC for possible defection to APC, but Oyetola refused, perhaps still licking his old wounds.
And today, the Adelekes and Tinubu are dancing the same dance. Public endorsements. Private meetings. Family ties being weaponized for 2027. While APC members in Osun are bleeding on the ground, the national leader appears to be negotiating peace with his perceived “political enemy.”
This is not politics. What then is politics if this is not politics? This is betrayal of structure. This is how parties die. Party members are echoing it aloud.
When the presidency looks the other way, party discipline collapses. Workers get confused. Loyalists get demoralized. And the opposition gets emboldened. Buhari did it with Obaseki. And APC says it cost us Edo. Tinubu risks repeating it with Adeleke. And it may cost APC Osun.
Nigerians are watching. Party members are watching.
If the President cannot protect his own house, how can he protect…? If alliance with the opposition is now the strategy, then let APC be honest and tell its members to go home.
Politics without principle is prostitution. Nigeria deserves better.
