What Obubuyeye?
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of one George Buchi Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries. The offense? Another fake agency was discovered operating inside the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Let that sink in. Inside OSGF. The engine room of government.
This is not a roadside NGO in Mushin. This is the office that coordinates ministries, signs memos, and speaks for the Presidency. And yet a man could walk in, set up a fake agency, and operate until someone blew the whistle.
Three permanent secretaries are suspended. Questions must be asked. Who signed the approvals? Who allocated office space? Who collected salaries? Who looked away?
We cannot keep acting shocked. For years we have run a bureaucracy where files move with brown envelopes, where protocol is for sale, where “connection” is the real civil service rule.
If OSGF can be infiltrated, what of NDDC, NIMASA, Customs, Immigration?
President Tinubu’s directive is right. Arrest. Suspend. Prosecute. But arrest alone is not reform.
We need digital tracking of all agencies. We need public registers. We need consequences that outlive press releases.
Because “What Obubuyeye?” is not a joke anymore. It is the sound of a system that has rotted from the head.
If the center cannot secure itself, how will it secure 200 million Nigerians?
