The EFCC freezes Osun State’s account. Ten days to an election. The reason is “investigation.” The timing is “coincidence.”
Then President Tinubu tells the EFCC to unfreeze. And just like that, the vault opens.
But wait. The EFCC is independent. It is not at the whims and caprices of Mr. President. At least that is what the law books say.
My mother tongue failed me. So I laughed in Swahili.
Because what else do you do when the script writes itself? Freeze the opposition, unfreeze the ally, and call it due process. Starve a state, blame the governor, control the outcome, then remember the constitution when the cameras are on.
This is not about Osun alone. This is about the joke we have turned governance into. An anti-graft agency that acts like a traffic light. Red for enemies, green for friends. Independent until the phone rings from Aso Rock.
If the EFCC truly answers to no one, then let it prove it. Let it publish the petition, the timeline, and the reason for both the freeze and the unfreeze. Let Nigerians see the file, not the press statement.
Accountability cannot be selective. You cannot weaponize an agency on Tuesday and quote independence on Friday. Thank God today is Friday.
Nigerians are not fools. We see the dance.
Either the EFCC is independent, or it is not. But this middle ground where it freezes on command and unfreezes on instruction is an insult to all of us.
