Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters, Gombe, was arraigned before the court over allegations that she dishonestly received a gallon of Turkey oil valued at N60,000.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on August 27, 2026, when the defendant allegedly received the item from one Ibrahim Umar Hassan of Aniya Quarters, Gombe.

The prosecution told the court that the Turkey oil had allegedly been stolen from Haruna Mohammed Magaji of Ajiya Quarters, Gombe.

Presenting the case before the court, the state counsel, Barrister Hafsat Aliyu, said the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.

“The defendant is before this honourable court for allegedly receiving property which she knew or had reason to believe was stolen,” Aliyu told the court.

When the charge was read and explained to her, Amadu pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

Her plea prompted the court to proceed with the bail application, after which Chief Magistrate Kilawa granted her bail.

The court, however, adjourned the matter until September 14, 2026, for hearing.

The case is expected to proceed with the presentation of evidence and further arguments by the parties when it comes up on the adjourned date.
