The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University, Jalingo Branch, has accepted a two-week extension request by Governor Agbu Kefas to enable the state government to meet the union’s demands.
ASUU-TSU is demanding the full implementation of the FGN/ASUU 2025 agreement and other outstanding provisions.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the ASUU-TSU branch had earlier, on August 13, 2026, issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State Government, calling for the full implementation of the agreement or face industrial action at the university.
However, the ultimatum elapsed on August 26, 2026, without concrete and verifiable action from the government. The union, however, suspended consideration of industrial action due to the institution’s combined convocation, which was scheduled within the period.
Meanwhile, following the expiration of the first ultimatum, the union issued what it described as a final 14-day ultimatum, effective from September 14 to September 28, 2026.
However, the ASUU chairman, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, told journalists on Tuesday that the union had received official communication from the Taraba State Government requesting an additional two weeks to enable it to meet the union’s demands.
“Yes, we have received an official communication from the state government requesting an additional two weeks to enable the government to meet our demands. We communicated the request to ASUU national, and they asked us to accept it.
“After receiving the letter, we reconvened an emergency meeting, and members unanimously agreed to accept the state government’s request.
“Members also warned that industrial action would be taken if their demands are not met after the expiration of the newly extended 14-day period,” Dr Mbave stated.
The ASUU chairman, while appreciating the efforts of the Taraba State Government towards addressing issues affecting the university, called on the government to remain committed and sincere in implementing the agreement to maintain an uninterrupted academic calendar at the institution.
