Former Gombe State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has featured prominently in the All Progressives Congress campaign advisory council and campaign council in Gombe State, despite his affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party.
Dankwambo, the PDP leader in Gombe State and senator representing Gombe North Senatorial District, is an associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He is expected to face incumbent Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the APC candidate and co-chairman of the campaign council, in the contest for the Gombe North senatorial seat.
According to a three-part publication by the APC, Dankwambo’s name appears at number seven on the campaign council list and number six on the advisory council list.
Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone interview, the APC Publicity Secretary in Gombe State, Usman Murtala, said Dankwambo’s inclusion was linked to his commitment to campaign for President Bola Tinubu.
“You were wondering when you saw his name in the state campaign list but you didn’t wonder when you saw his name in the presidential campaign list. It’s because his name is in the federal campaign list because he agreed to campaign for Tinubu. We must bring him to his state to campaign for Tinubu ward-to-ward,” Murtala said.
Asked whether Dankwambo’s campaign activities would be restricted to supporting Tinubu, the APC spokesman said the former governor’s inclusion also reflected the party’s support for the rainbow coalition in the state.
“He is the chairman of rainbow coalition in Gombe, putting his name there shows we supports the rainbow coalition in Gombe State.
“Since he is contesting, I don’t know if he will campaign for the governor to become senator because he is contesting same seat,” Murtala added.
Attempts to reach Dankwambo for his reaction were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
