The Kebbi Progressive Youths (KEPYO) has faulted Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu’s recent commentary on the education sector, saying Kebbi people appreciate the progress recorded under Governor Nasir Idris.
The group stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi by its spokesperson, Comrade Hamisu Sani, in response to Dawakin Kudu’s lengthy “Right of Reply” on the administration’s performance in education.
KEPYO said while Dawakin Kudu acknowledged investments in school rehabilitation, classroom construction, teachers’ welfare and the provision of learning materials, he appeared to diminish the achievements by linking them to the broader challenge of insecurity.
The group described the approach as “a clear case of political gaslighting,” arguing that educational infrastructure, teacher recruitment, welfare and learning materials are foundational to improved learning outcomes and should not be dismissed because challenges remain.
According to KEPYO, insecurity is a national challenge, particularly across the North-West, and should not be presented as though it was created by the Nasir Idris administration.
The group said the government had continued to collaborate with security agencies, reopen schools where conditions permitted and sustain investments in education despite the security situation.
KEPYO also defended government officials’ right to communicate the administration’s achievements, saying accountability should not become a selective instrument deployed only when government interventions are being acknowledged.
It urged critics to visit schools across Kebbi State to assess the impact of the administration’s interventions firsthand, insisting that communities, teachers and parents remain the most credible witnesses to the progress recorded in the sector.
