The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, said it saved property worth an estimated N3.117bn from fire incidents recorded in the state between January and September 2026.
The Command, however, disclosed that property estimated at N814.03m was lost to fire during the nine-month period.
According to operational statistics obtained from the Planning, Policy, Research and Statistics Department of the Command, 24 fire incidents and one rescue operation were recorded within the period under review.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Bashir Muazu, disclosed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday in Gombe.
Muazu said the figures demonstrated the importance of prompt emergency response and effective firefighting interventions in reducing fire-related losses and protecting lives and property.
He said, “The figures reflect the importance of prompt emergency response and effective firefighting interventions in containing incidents, reducing fire-related losses and protecting lives and property across Gombe State.”
The FFS spokesman noted that although fire incidents continued to pose significant risks to lives and property, early detection, prompt reporting and rapid intervention remained critical to limiting the extent of damage.
He urged residents, business owners, institutions and other members of the public to observe basic fire safety measures, particularly by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and keeping escape routes accessible.
Muazu also advised residents to report fire emergencies immediately, stressing that every second counted during emergencies.
“Fire safety is a collective responsibility. Prevent fire. Protect lives. Protect property,” he added.
