Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has received the Democracy Heroes Award Africa in Abuja in recognition of his leadership, commitment to good governance and efforts to promote the development of the state.

The award was presented on Friday as part of efforts to recognise individuals whose contributions to public service and democratic development have made an impact on society.

In a statement, the Director of Media and Strategic Communication of the Kefas Campaign Council 2027, Hon. Emmanuel Bello, said the recognition reflected growing attention to the administration’s commitment to good governance and its efforts to reposition Taraba through people-oriented policies, institutional reforms and development initiatives.

Bello said that since assuming office in May 2023, Kefas had pursued an agenda focused on security, education, healthcare, youth development, agriculture, infrastructure and improved welfare for civil servants.

He said these priorities remained central to the administration’s commitment to ensuring that governance translated into tangible benefits for residents.

According to the statement, the administration has placed considerable emphasis on expanding access to education, recognising it as a critical instrument for human capital development and long-term economic prosperity.

It added that the government was also working to strengthen healthcare delivery, create opportunities for young people and improve the conditions necessary for businesses and local enterprises to thrive.

The statement noted that the administration’s focus on agriculture and economic development reflected Taraba’s potential in food production, agro-processing, tourism and other productive sectors capable of generating employment and improving livelihoods.

The Democracy Heroes Award Africa, organised by Face of Democracy Nigeria Projects, recognises individuals whose leadership and contributions support democratic development, public service and societal progress.

Governor Kefas was among several prominent political leaders honoured at this year’s ceremony for their contributions to governance and development.

The statement described the award as recognition of the responsibilities that accompany public leadership, adding that it provided an opportunity to reflect on the progress recorded in Taraba State and the work required to achieve the administration’s development objectives.

It said the honour reinforced the importance of sustaining policies that promote inclusive growth, strengthen public institutions and improve the quality of life of citizens across the state, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

“While awards provide valuable external recognition, the administration acknowledges that the ultimate measure of good governance remains the confidence of the people, the effectiveness of public institutions and the positive impact of government policies on everyday life,” the statement said.

It added that Kefas remained committed to advancing his administration’s development agenda, consolidating existing gains and pursuing opportunities to position Taraba for greater economic growth, social progress and sustainable development.

Reacting to the honour, Governor Kefas dedicated the award to the people of Taraba State, saying their resilience, cooperation and aspirations had inspired his administration’s efforts to build a more prosperous, peaceful and inclusive state.
