The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has appointed Commandant Mohammed-Inuwa Usman as the 15th substantive commandant of its Gombe State Command.

Usman assumed office on Monday, October 12, 2026, during a handing-over ceremony at the command headquarters in Gombe, succeeding Commandant Jibrin Idris, who has been recalled to the corps’ national headquarters in Abuja.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Buhari Saad, obtained by our correspondent.
In his inaugural address, the new commandant expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General, Ahmed-Abubakar Audi, for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to strengthen security operations and improve service delivery in the state.
He said his administration would align with the commandant-general’s vision of repositioning the corps for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Usman said the command would prioritise the protection of lives and property, safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure, disaster prevention and management, and supervision of private guard companies.
He added that his leadership would be anchored on “discipline, professionalism, integrity and dedication to duty.”
The new commandant also pledged to strengthen intelligence gathering, collaboration with sister security agencies and partnerships with communities to improve security management across the state.
He assured officers and men of the command that their welfare, training and retraining, as well as operational efficiency, would receive priority under his administration.
Usman urged personnel to remain proactive, civil and disciplined in the discharge of their duties, while calling on residents to support the corps with timely and credible information to combat crime.
He warned criminal elements in the state to desist from unlawful activities or face the full wrath of the law.
In his farewell address, the outgoing commandant, Idris, expressed gratitude to the commandant-general for the opportunity to serve in Gombe State.
He also thanked the state government, residents, sister security agencies and personnel of the command for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure.
Idris urged stakeholders to extend the same cooperation to his successor to ensure continued progress in maintaining peace and security in the state.
