The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare, has commiserated with the people of Binnari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State over the attack that claimed several lives in the area on Friday.
In a statement issued to journalists and signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council, Saidu Sadiq Adamu, Tutare reaffirmed his solidarity with the community and described the incident as unacceptable.
While condemning the attack in strong terms, Tutare called on governments at all levels and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect the lives and property of citizens, particularly those living in vulnerable communities.
He said the frequent attacks on peaceful communities across the state, especially in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido local government areas, were becoming increasingly worrisome.
According to the statement, every citizen has the constitutional right to life, welfare and property, adding that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the protection and preservation of these rights at all times.
The statement read, “We therefore call on the government and security agencies to move beyond expressions of concern and take serious, proactive measures to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the people.
“Relevant authorities should step up measures, including the immediate deployment of security personnel and the provision of adequate resources to address existing security gaps in vulnerable communities.
“Accordingly, we further urge the authorities not only to identify and arrest the perpetrators of these heinous crimes but also to ensure that they are appropriately prosecuted and punished in accordance with existing laws to serve as a deterrent to future offenders.
“To the victims, we sympathise with you and assure you that we stand in solidarity with you at this trying moment. We also pray for the repose of the souls of your loved ones who have lost their lives and wish those injured a speedy recovery.”
