The member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has congratulated Hon. Nafiu Bala-Gombe following a Federal High Court judgment affirming his leadership position in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abejide also commended the judiciary for the ruling, describing it as a victory for the rule of law and a significant development for Nigeria’s democracy.

The lawmaker conveyed his congratulatory message through his Special Adviser on Public Communications, expressing satisfaction with the court’s decision to invalidate the leadership structure of the Senator David Mark-led caretaker committee and the actions taken by the faction.

The judgment also nullified the process through which the committee produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Abejide described the ruling as a timely intervention that had reinforced constitutional order and saved democracy from what he termed an imminent collapse.

He also extended his congratulations to his political associates and supporters, both at home and abroad, over what he described as a well-delivered judgment.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Thursday, Abejide expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects, declaring that the President remained unbeatable in the 2027 general election.

According to him, Tinubu has achieved significantly since assuming office, adding that the administration’s performance would translate into electoral victory in the forthcoming presidential poll.

The lawmaker maintained that the President’s chances of victory would remain strong irrespective of whether Atiku Abubakar appeared on the ballot.

Abejide also expressed satisfaction with the leadership structure he left behind in the ADC following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 1, 2026.

He said the cooperation and commitment of the party’s leadership had contributed to the resolution of the leadership dispute, culminating in the court’s decision.

In the judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, declared the Senator David Mark-led caretaker committee was illegally constituted.

The court upheld a suit filed by Nafiu Bala-Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the ADC (North-East), who challenged the process through which the Mark-led committee assumed control of the party.

Bala-Gombe had argued that following the resignation of the party’s former National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, he was constitutionally entitled to assume leadership of the ADC.

He consequently sought the nullification of actions taken by the Mark-led committee.

Abejide was first elected to the House of Representatives in February 2019 on the platform of the ADC and was re-elected in February 2023 to represent Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency.

He also emerged as the ADC governorship candidate for Kogi State in November 2023, further consolidating his political influence within the party.

The latest ruling represents a major development in the ADC’s protracted leadership crisis, with potential implications for the party’s political direction and preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
