How the Govt can tackle unemployment

The term unemployment refers to a situation where a person actively searches for employment but is unable to find work.
According to researchers, Unemployment refers to a situation where individuals capable of working seek active opportunities for work but cannot find any for various reasons. For a person to be considered unemployed, that individual must be an active member of the labour force actively searching for remunerative employment.
Unemployment in Nigeria is a popular issue that keeps on increasing in the country were some graduate are not employed. Therefore, the National Bureau of Statistics recorded an increase in the national unemployment rate from 23.1per cent in 2018 to 33.3per cent in 2020. We estimate that this rate has increased to 37.7per cent in 2022 and will rise further to 40.6 per cent in 2023.”
Therefore, Unemployment is a complex and multifaceted issue in Nigeria, there are a few things the government can do to try to tackle it. For one, they can focus on developing the country’s infrastructure. This includes things like building roads, bridges, and power plants, as well as investing in healthcare and education. These investments can create jobs and help to boost the economy, which can reduce unemployment in the long run. In However, the government can work to encourage entrepreneurship and small businesses. This can create more job opportunities and spur economic growth in the country.
Another way the government can try to tackle unemployment is through vocational training programs. These programs can help people learn new skills that can make them more employable. For example, the government could offer training in trades like plumbing, carpentry, and welding. Or, it could offer training in information technology and other in-demand fields. By helping people develop skills that are in demand in the workforce, the government can make it easier for people to find jobs and reduce unemployment.
The government can also work to create incentives for businesses to hire more people. One way to do this is through tax breaks or other financial incentives for companies that create jobs. This could encourage businesses to expand and hire more people, which would reduce unemployment. Another way to incentivise job creation is through government contracts. By awarding contracts to businesses that have a track record of creating jobs, the government can help to create more opportunities for people to find work. Another way to tackle unemployment is through labour market reforms. These reforms could include things like making it easier for people to start businesses, reforming labour laws, and increasing access to credit. By making it easier for people to start businesses, more jobs can be created. Reforming labour laws can make it easier for businesses to hire people, and increasing access to credit can help businesses to grow and create more jobs. All of these reforms could have a positive impact on unemployment.
In conclusion all of the above mentioned are number of ways the government can try to tackle unemployment in Nigeria. These include developing infrastructure, creating incentives for businesses to hire more people, and reforming the labour market. While these solutions are not guaranteed to work, they are worth exploring as ways to improve the economy and reduce unemployment in Nigeria.
