The Governor of Gombe state Alh.Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has called on officials handling the Gombe/Biu road (Doma Bridge axis) to hasten work on the bridge in due course because of the economic importance of the road he said
“it is about two weeks now as I was returning from Dadinkowa, I had to stop to inspect the level of damage, after which I lodged a complaint in FERMA office. “This is the only link we have with Bornu and Adamawa States on the eastern part of Gombe state.”There are about 9 local governments linked to this road, this explains the importance of this road to both our economic and mutual Relationship. “You know the relationship of these two states with Gombe state as it relates to trade and commerce. “We want this road to be urgently tackled to avoid havoc and death” he added.
The head of FERMA Federal Roads Management Agency acknowledged that they were equal to the task after duely inspecting the bridge He said ” We have inspected the bridge, we will introduce longer transition slab of 3 metres, what we have here is a shorter one which is not ideal with modern design. We will address the crack on the bridge and make it motorable” he stated.
The tour of the governor touched Abacha road around Jekadafari axis linked to myetti road along Fire service, where Inuwa, charged Triacta Construction to deliver standard roads he said “We have a standard, any road that has been kick-started will be completed people of Gombe need access, to go to their businesses, villages, to ease movement and control emergency” he noted.
The contractor in charge of construction expressed enthusiasm that the road will be completed in due course. He said “Working in rainy season is a challenge, but I want to solicit for the cooperation of residents because they will be faced with a temporary hardship. Another challenge is on the compensation plan as some house owners want to retain paid spaces and it is affecting our alignment” he added.
The governor also visited Gombe main market to commiserate with victims of Fire incidence, he promised palliative measures and to investigate cause of the inferno.
