…..to boost interpersonal relations between officers, Inmates, and visitors .
The Centre for Management Development (CMD) North East zone has organised a one day sensitization seminar for officers of the Nigerian Prisons and other federal agencies within the Gombe federal secretariat, with the theme “Effective Communication, Interpersonal Relations and Team Work”. The Zonal coordinator of CMD, El.Dan Manya, has restated the centre’s resolve to train federal Parastals within the secretariat. He said “We designed this seminar to sensitize federal government institutions to know our presence and our function in other to select officers for training. With commitment, we can achieve our goals but without commitment we can’t achieve our set goals. It is your father’s job because, your father relies on the job to survive but if it is not your father’s job then, quit this and go home to your father’s job. Not everyone can be a leader, to lead you must possess the necessary skills” he noted.
The controller of Prisons of Gombe state, CP Ahmadu Adamu, whose men were in attendance for the training has stated the reason for his resolve to train his officers he said “A close look at the theme will explain as correction officers, we need this training more than any other person. The prison is a public organization which constantly receives Visitors, ranging from Legal practitioners, Non Governmental Organizations, religious bodies and relations of inmates under our custody. This increases the need to increase our interpersonal development and effective communication can not be overemphasized. This was why I chose to involve my staff adequately in this workshop. So that we can be able to apply the lessons in our various stations. In other to deal accordingly with our visitors. The modern trend in prison administration, entails humane treatment of inmates as well as their relations. Talking about human development, it can be realized from the trainings in our conventional schools. We need to go ahead of that just like the one offered by CMD to enhance our capacity building and general development for effective service delivery” he added.
Assistant Controller of Prisons ACP Lukman Ezekiel, expressed the enthusiasm of officers to apply the lessons of the training. He said “You will all agree with me, that the topic is apt and timely, the facilitation very Excellent, the content very adequate. I believe we are leaving this place better than we came in” he stated
