……..Gombe set to become the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.
Governor of Gombe state Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, yesterday remarked that he supports education of women to any level, no matter the age. The governor stated this as he received members of Nigeria computer society, who came on a thank you visit. He said ” I have a lot of regard for education and information technology. I supported my wife who is also a member of your society to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, where she studied. I support education of women to any level no matter the age. I believe education is the key and like the president of the society said Information Technology is the key. There is nothing we can’t do as an administration to support it growth. It was not by accident that we encouraged NCS to hold it conference, at the International conference centre Gombe, it was by design. We will join hands with you and anyone ready to bring development to our people. We are far behind compared with the southern part of Nigeria, which is propelled by insurgency and activities of Boko Haram. We shall overcome. With E-Governance, you save cost, ensure more productivity and better service to the people” he noted.
Professor Adesola Aderounmu, president of Nigeria Computer society has urged Gombe state government to refocus on Information Technology as a means of solving myriad of challenges facing her. He stated this as members of the Computer Society presidential team comprising of the DG NITDA Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, Prof. Charles Uwadia, Computer Professional Registration Council (CPN), Prof. Adenike Osofisan, Provost college of fellows and elders of the council paid courtesy visit to the Governor . He said “Gombe state can convert what is here to ICT hub, like a silicon valley. Information Technology is the key to drive the economy of any state forward. If we are able to embrace IT, it will solve unemployment crisis in this country and capacity for our youths. I can see a number of facilities within the environment, such that can solve a lot of jobs. NCS is ready to partner with Gombe state, we have seen the infrastructures on ground and how we can embrace them in turning the state to the Silicon Valley” he added.
Dr. Isa Ali pantami, DG of National Information Technology Development Agency ( NITDA) thanked the governor for the support he has yielded the conference “The support of the governor is highly exceptional. He has approved entirely everything that the society has sought for. That is why the NCS has deemed it fit to award him with honorary fellowship for his outstanding leadership. Gombe state has what it takes to become the Silicon Valley, what is the required is first a committed leadership and the Governor has that tendency especially by setting up of a transition committee on ICT and see how the state can succeed” he added.
