Chima Azubuike, Gombe state.
Association of Goat and Sheep Sellers, Gombe state chapter has called on Gombe residents to desist from importing rams into the state as they have more than enough to serve them for the celebration.
The association spoke through one of the state secretary, Malam Nasir Saleh, when our Correspondent visited the popular Tike market, Tashan Dukku park in Gombe Metropolis to inquire about the price of items for the Muslim celebration.
He noted that Gombe state just like any other state in the federation does not have so much money in circulation. That is why we have decided to make the price moderately affordable for all buyers.
He said “The cost is not from sellers but as a result of the cost of feed and also the season. For a seller, until he gets his profit the expectation is less. But because of the season, some farmers usually sell their sheep and goat for the sake of paying for labour. So this has made the price of sheep competitive. Our people can get the best quality here at moderate rate. So there is no need going outside of the state in search of Sheep as we can also serve other states” he added.
In a similar vein, Bala Usman, Seriki Tike, Tashan Dukku Sheep and Goat market noted that the prices are affordable for an average buyer he said “Small size goes for N30,000, Medium size goes for N50,000 and the highest price ranges for N100,000 and above.
Meanwhile, when our Correspondent went round, he noticed different buyers come to ask sellers about the price and leave to the next stand but as he made his way out of the market he saw a man move along with his small size goat, when he enquired the choice of goat and size he said ” Na the economy, How much is Minimum wage, have they implemented it” he wondered.
