The North East Development Commission chairman Maj. Gen. Paul Tarfa Rtd, has promised to build more schools to contain the children of internally displaced persons in Gombe state.
He stated this on thursday at a one day assessment visit to Gombe state internally displaced persons. The team used the opportunity to stop by at the only operational primary school in the area Hammadu Kafi primary school Akko LGA, Gombe state.
Major Tarfa, who expressed shock that a school that used to provide services to 200 students in the community currently caters for over 1000 students said “As a commission we have taken note of this deficit in the education of this area. I want to reassure you that in due time we will build more schools to meet the demand. It is only a matter of time we will definitely do something in collaboration with the state government” he added.
Prof. Abubakar Njodi, the secretary of the state government who conducted the team round noted that the structure is the face of education in the community. He however called on the commission to assist the area with facilities.
” This symbolises the education sector in this area. One of the overwhelming issues that has to do with insurgency is the shortage of services like school. As you can see our concern is not only about the development, but there is a problem of space because they have occupied most of the spaces” he said.
