Chima Azubuike, Gombe state.
The secretary of Gombe state government, Prof Ibrahim Njodi, has urged Gombe youths to think out side the box instead thinking of joining the existing 67000 workforce of the state.
He stated this on Tuesday while hosting Tangale waja youths Association, a coalition of students from Gombe south who visited him to express their solidarity .
Prof Njodi asked the youths to throw away the old system that has not profited them. He assured that Entrepreneurship is the way to go. “Survival is what matters, I have told my children you have no business with government work. Government does not have the jobs, even if it has the jobs it doesn’t pay well. If I hadn’t come here I wouldn’t have known it myself as it is today whatever am been paid as SSG is not half of my salary as a professor. I will advise every youth to embrace one skill set or the other, skill acquisition is the way to become financially free” he said.
He added that as youths you must embrace peace and unity. “Government all over the world only does basic things, provide social amenities “all other things are your business. Government should be able to provide steady power, and to some extent basic healthcare delivery. I’m happy you are talking about cooperatives, I will go to any extent to support youths across the state and Nigeria in general”.
The leader of the delegation Shuaibu Bilyabu, who presented a gift to the secretary of the State Government appealed to Prof Njodi, to extend possible assistance to his group. He said his group has the vision to establish a cosmetics factory which will employ as many Gombe youths as possible. “This association is planning that by next year, we should have a cosmetology factory whereby we don’t have to buy soap, perfume, cream. We will be selling to the entire Gombe state and Nigeria. The profit will go back to the community by providing means of living, scholarship scheme to empower the less privilege amongst others. To boost education, through awarding of study grants to students. We solicit for schemes in form of small and medium scale business”.
