Following the acquisition of fifty additional buses by the Gombe state government to enhance movement of passengers for intra and inter state purposes. The management of Gombe line transport have employed additional thirty (30) drivers and organized a workshop this tuesday for drivers before the official launching of the 50 additional buses by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, on Wednesday.
According to Alh. Nasiru Pantami, Executive Director, Gombe Transport Corporation. He noted that the essence of the workshop was to sanitize, train drivers towards becoming better. “I want to commend the Gombe state governor, Alh. Inuwa Yahaya, for the acquisition of 50 new buses for use and the management team of Gombe Line which includes Managing director Alh. Umar Abdulsalam, Executive director operations Sadiq Goro, Executive director commercials Abdulraheem Peto for the effort in making this a reality.
” The governor authorised that 30 drivers be employed, across three major parks we had to scout for drivers in Bauchi Motor Park, Dadinkowa park and Dukku park. We thought it wise to train these drivers on the essence of what is expected of them. There is a collaboration with specialist hospital to test our drivers on medical fitness” he said.
Assistant state Commander operations and intelligence NDLEA Gombe, Olisaemeka Okafor, also charged drivers to desist from drug abuse “Drivers will save lives and the investment of the state in purchasing these buses will yield desired effects in the state if they stay off substances “.
Meanwhile Ambrose Gurumwan, the assistant sector commander, FRSC Gombe state noted that the the relevance of the training is targeted at “Educating, and Enlightening the newly recruited drivers on how to handle their vehicles. Driving is big business, it is not just about moving vehicles that matters but the safety, the take off and arrival counts alot. We are here to polish those things they have already known but had forgotten”.
In a similar vein, Ubi Ahmed, Ag Branch secretary Red Cross, Gombe state noted that this training will help drivers know what to do in cases of accident “We want to give them brief understanding of what First Aid is all about and to tell them about what they should do in time of distress” he said.
You will recall that our correspondent reported that Gombe state records 262 road crashes in ten months with adherence of this training this crashes may be reduced.
