Gombe Plans to end Farmers, Herders Clash

….Federal College of Horticulture decorates Gov Yahaya with a fellowship award.
Gombe state Governor Inuwa Yahaya, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to arrest the incessant farmers/ herders clash in the state. 
The governor disclosed this at the Combined Convocation programme of 1,354 graduates comprising of 346 Higher National Diploma and 1006 National Diploma  graduates of Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, on Saturday.
Yahaya said the honourable minister of Agriculture Alh. Sabo Nanono, is in Gombe today, representing president Muhammadu Buhari, as visitor of the college but he has been to Gombe to inspect grazing reserves and had promised that Gombe will be the pilot state.
“Particularly the grazing reserve at Dukku. He has confirmed to us that Gombe will be the pilot state for Livestock Transformation programme.By that we shall have what it takes to resolve the farmers/ herders clash. Of recent issues relating to herders, farmers have emanated again especially here Dadinkowa, Dukku and Kaltungo parts. Much as we are doing our best, the federal government will set up livestock and modern RUGA system “he said.
He added that Gombe state has the largest grazing reserve in Nigeria “our grazing reserve is close to a hundred and forty  hectares which is the largest in the entire continent of Africa and we are ready to partner with Federal government. I believe the honourable minister Will ensure it takes off immediately so that the issues of farmers and herders are finally resolved”.
The honourable minister, Alh. Sabo Nanono, expressed his delight with the level of progress the college has attained ” I urge other institutions under the ministry of Agriculture to ensure students are graduated in good time and certificate issued to them appropriately without delay. I call on their managements to look inward to argument the allocation it receives and reduce over dependence on the federal government” Nanono said.
According to the provost Prof. Fatima Sawa, the ceremony is worthy of note “For the first time ever, we have been able  to gather, in large number, alumni of this college who have graduated from the college in the previous years. Out of 1,354 graduates, there are 346 Higher National Diploma  and 1006 National Diploma graduates”.
Governor Yahaya who was accompanied by top government functionaries, was amongst the nine recipients of the college fellowship award for his stewardship, township roads, water supply,Security, Education, Agriculture and the Environment had witnessed a tremendous leap.
