Hundreds of Gombe youths – walked in a bid to say No to all forms of violence against women at an event jointly organized by Gombe Hikers Initiative and Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria-Young Pharmacists of Nigeria have urged Gombe women to speak against Sexual Gender Based Violence.
Speaking on Saturday at an endurance trek with the theme ‘United to End’ to mark 2019, 16 days activism againt Sexual Gender Based Violence, from Rainbow roundabout to Pantami Stadium, the Convener Micah Bello, he noted that the campaign aims to reduce gender based violence in Gombe state.
“Our ultimate aim is to sensitize the community on the effect of sidelining women and create awareness about the dangers of gender based violence. In 3 to 5 families there is one issue of gender based violence, it could be rape, assault and abuse of child. We want to start the conversation” he said.
According to the National Public Relations Officer Young Pharmacists of Nigeria Shadrach Nzomisaki, he said the female is equally a human and women right must be respected may be because we are in a society, especially the North, where females are forced into Marriage. To that girl, that girl speak up, be hopeful that it has come to an end”.
Faida Babale, a participant at the trek said “I chose to be part of the trek because gender based violence is becoming rampant. There are many women suffering from this but they don’t have a voice to say it out, some are locked without access to help”.
