Gombe Parking Bay Operational

Gombe State Government says it is no longer business as usual with the inauguration of Taskforce Committee on relocation of Petroleum Trankers, and other heavy duty vehicles to Tanker Bay. According to the chairman Gombe Taskforce on indiscriminate Parking and Special Adviser Security Matters Col. Sani Dabsiya the essence of the committee is to ensure the security of lives and property in the state. Dabsiya stated this on Saturday at a press conference on the commencement of parking activities at Tankers Bay in the state, was witnessed by chairmen of Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Nigerian Union of Road Transport Owners and Nigerian Union of Heavy Truck Drivers. He noted that the mandate of the committee is to curb illegal parking of tankers and to mitigate road rage. Dabsiya said, “We are to regulate the movement of tankers in and out of Gombe and it environs. Monitor the entry and exit of trailers, petroleum tankers of both passengers and the goods. We are to ensure enforcement of all laws governing heavy duty trucks movement in and out of Gombe. “We shall ensure that all defaulters are appropriately sanctioned, as well as ensuring that the trucks pay designated parks pay stipulated revenue. The aim of this taskforce is not to arbitrarily punish anybody but to bring law and order to fashion out how our roads are maintained and free for passage.” He added that the Tanker Bay provides adequate comfort and safety for drivers who are still in transit noting that it eliminates accident.

Meanwhile the Secretary of Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners Sani Ibrahim said his union will comply with the directive of Government adding that “since there is a facility we have no choice than to use the bay as it will reduce risk to lives and property and boost government revenue,” he said.
