esday urged the state government to introduce favourable tax policies to cushion the effect of covid-19 on small scale businesses.

Abdulmalik Abubakar, stated this during a virtual meeting organized by the state youth parliament on the theme ‘Youth and Covid-19 Pandemic’.

He said COVID-19 affects all segments of the population, with young people playing a key role in the management of this novel virus adding that efforts should be made towards Monitoring youth unemployment and underemployment, in order to take targeted measures during the recovery to promote youth employment and decent work.

Abubakar said, “There is need to recognize that in managing the crisis and mitigating its impact, emphasis should be placed on retaining jobs, supporting the most vulnerable ones including the self-employed, ensuring liquidity, promoting skill development.

“Government should introduce favourable tax policies to grow businesses. This will boost marketing and consumer confidence even as it lifts travel restrictions as the health emergency allows to recover economic growth and sustain financial stability.”

Earlier the speaker Gombe State Youth Parliament Khalid Kumo, said the meeting was critical to brainstorm issues relating to COVID-19 pandemic Challenges, Opportunities, effect and as well as way forward in order to contribute our quota in this period of global pandemic.

“There is need to enable young people to identify their numerous tasks and responsibilities. So that, our businesses, investments, schools, transport, etc will return to its normal position and the inflation of  goods and services will also be normalized,” Kumo added.

The session had Speaker of Nigerian Youth Parliament Mubarak Mijinyawa  as guest speaker, he elaborated more on the setback of COVID19 pandemic and it’s negative effect to young people, amongst other keynote speakers.
