Chima Azubuike, Gombe State
Gombe state governor Inuwa Yahaya, on Friday revealed that salary of a consultant doctor is more than the take home of a state governor.
Yahaya disclosed this while addressing National Association of Resident Doctors led by the first vice president Dr. Julian Ojebo, who are on their annual executive meeting in the state.
He said government has enormous responsibilities which transcends health, agriculture and security adding that there is need for doctors to sacrifice.
According to him, “The budget the state presented before the review is about N131B with the reduction of oil benchmark due to covid-19 pandemic. So if we put in all the money we have in Gombe into the health sector, and we still have to work in Agriculture, Education, Social welfare and security. In fact without security nothing will work. So we are in a deep blue sea and all hands must be on deck.
“So for members of National Association of Resident Doctors and the Nigerian Medical Association, I thank you for the cooperation so far. Like Oliver twist I want to ask that you do more, you need to sacrifice. The salary of a governor is less than the salary of a consultant. If you find a willing governor that is willing to work 24/7, 365 days because I come to work even on Sunday’s. I urge you to do more, as we do more so that we can take the people, together in the words of my party to the next level.”
Speaking earlier, Dr. Julian Ojebo said the association suspended it National strike four weeks ago to give room for further deliberations adding that Personal Protective Equipment and domestication of residency Act across the country are top priority.
