Speaker, Nigerian Youth Parliament Mubarak Mijinyawa, on Sunday commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for authorizing the establishment of National Youth Investment Fund.
He said the fund will assist hardworking youths get credit facility to kick start legitimate business ventures.
Mijinyawa disclosed this to newsmen at the conference hall of ministry of Youth and sports in Gombe.
He stated, “The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) wishes to express its sincere gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari and his entire Executive Council for the approval to establish the National Youth Investment Fund, NYIF. An initiative targeted at creating a special window for youths with genuine business ideas to access credit facilities and financing to fund their ideas, innovations and also support their enterprise.
“This is another milestone achievement of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in line with the youth development and empowerment derive of the administration that history and posterity will not forget soon.”
While commending the minister for standing by the parliament in seeing that the Fund materialized, Mijinyawa noted that since August 2019 the campaign had been on.
“The Nigerian Youth Parliament equally wish to commend the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare for standing firm with us in this regard until it finally saw the light of day. This is no doubt a clear manifestation of his promise to the Nigerian Youths that he will prioritize issues of Youths Development as against what was obtainable in recent years where only issues of Sports Development receives attention in the Ministry. It is our firm believe that with Mr. Sunday Dare, the Youths are in safe hands and we wish him well in his present and future endeavours,” he said.
He added, “We will however call on the President and the Honourable Minister to as a matter of critical importance and for the progress of the establishment, include youth representation in the Board of Trustees and thereafter appoint Youth as the Chief Executive Officer/Director General to take charge of the Fund and other relevant directorates as the popular saying has it that; Anything about the youth that does not involve the youth, is not for the youth.”
