The Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Njodi, on Tuesday called for the participation of Women in leadership adding that the country should give a woman chance to become president.
Njodi who is the immediate past vice chancellor of university of Maiduguri, stated this when he received Icon of Diligent Service Award from Female Students Association of Nigeria, in Government House Gombe.
He said, “As a government in Gombe we feel women should be given their places in the scheme of things. we don’t under rate them if we are not putting them ahead of us we are taking them side by side because we don’t want them to be seen as second fiddle. Way back in the university, I have always told the students union cabinet that I want a balance.
“No question of 30% female, I have always said if it is not 50-50 then it should be 51-49 because I want the female to feel among. I believe in the power of what the woman can do.
“The future of this country, lies in the hands of the women. If I had my way, I will say let us pick a woman as president, let see the difference because we have tried our own (males). The exception to corruption are the women, unfortunately 70 to 80% of the population in IDP camps are women.”
On his part, Alhaji Yusuf Kaltungo, the Director General Public Reforms Gombe State in his vote of thanks noted that the intelligence of professor Njodi knows no boundary adding that “It has gone global and even fathom. It is noteworthy that the female gender has embraced the barage of accolades. This is a fallout to hard work and dedication.”
Speaking earlier the Association’s Representative Rafiat Abdullahi said the SSG was chosen to receive the Award due to his outstanding records and his support for the girl child education.
