Gombe state government on Monday, ratified the dissolution of councils of the entire tertiary institutions in the state.
Confirming the dissolution, the commissioner for higher education, Hon. Meshack Lauco, said the councils of the various institutions were installed by the previous administration, adding that they had stay beyond their constituted term.
Lauco explained this during cabinet press briefing, marking the end of the State Executive Council which held in Gombe.
He said, “the governor as the visitor of the institutions in the state, has the power to constitute and having taken a look at the governing councils that are state owned, they were inherited and some of them by the law establishing them should cease to exist because they can’t exist beyond the government that put it in place.”
Lauco added that the government will not shy away from checking the records of the past councils of the state owned institutions.
“If the government has the need to look into the books of the previous governing councils government will willingly do so. Don’t forget that the laws establishing these institutions, makes provision for for visitation panels Every 5 years. If there is need for government to look into the books of the previous councils, government will not hesitate to do so,” he stated.
