Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Lauco Meshack says the sate government has set a white paper committee to examine the relevance of tertiary institutions in the state.
Meshack stated this during an independence day media parley in the government house, commemorating Nigeria at 60 and Gombe at 24, while answering question on the activities of the Prof. Buba Bajoga committee on Tertiary education in the state.
Recall that the state has six institutions of higher learning, so far there have been issues on the merits on the viability of some of the institutions.
He said the Bajoga’s committee has made it recommendations, adding that the stage of action is on the outcome of the white paper.
According to Meshack, “The prof. Buba Bajoga committee has submitted it report and government has accepted the report but as it is with all reports submitted to government. A white paper committee has been set up to look at the report and come up with a white paper which will be implemented by the ministry of higher education.”
He added that out of the six Tertiary institutions under his purview two are enlisted on TETFUND.
“Gombe state university, College of Education, Billiri. We are making efforts to ensure they are enlisted also bearing in mind the conditions and one of the condition is that your programmes are accredited,” he said.
