FCE Yola names complex after Gombe SSG

The Federal College of Education Yola in Adamawa State has named a newly built complex within its perimeter after Secretary to the Gombe state government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi for his contribution to the growth and development of tertiary education in the country.
Reacting to the honour done to him Njodi thanked the Management and Staff of the institution for recognising his contribution in the Education sector and naming a complex after him.
The University Don and Secretary to the Gombe State Government called on the Federal and State Governments to take educational development seriously as it is the bedrock of any socio economic intellectual cultural and political development.
“I call on the Federal and State Governments to take education development seriously, our leaders should for once disabuse their minds from thinking that Public institutions are business venture that must generate revenue.
“Government should rethink and distinguish between public and private institutions,” Njodi said.
He stressed that goverment should note that public institutions are essentially social service providers and are completely different from private institutions which are primarily set up as business venture.
He described a situation where goverment expect revenue from institutions as counter productive adding that remitting what is collected for services to government coffers is unfair to institutions of learning.
The former vice chancellor of University of Maiduguri, commended the Provost for the landmark projects which he said are noteworthy.
He said, “On the commissioning of a building in my name,I feel honored and humbled to be so recognized to name a befitting structure in my name.”
While appreciating the gesture by management of the College, Njodi dedicated the honour to the collective resseliance, sacrifice and support of staff and students of University of Maiduguri.
Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, was represented by the Director Tertiary Institution Hajiya Rakiya Gambo Iliyasu, commended the college management for the projects, which she said have direct bearing on educational development in Nigeria, calling on students of the college to rededicate themselves to their studies, to justify the huge investment made on them by their parents.
Provost of the college, Prof. Abdulmumin Sa’ad, appreciated the guests for making out time from their schedules to honour the invitation.
He described Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi as an academician of repute, whose contribution to educational development in Nigeria, can not be quantified.
Other speakers includes; the representative of the Lamido of Adamawa, former provost of the college and other staff of the institution, in their remarks identified the commitment of the college management and the developmental strides and the contribution of Governor Ahmad Umar Fintiri in ensuring that staff and students of the college are protected and their basic needs met, as a prerequisite for smooth teaching and learning.
