Gombe state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Habu Dahiru on Sunday, said no going back on the 11th of January slated resumption date for basic schools; private and government in the state.
According to Dahiru, Federal Government’s 18th date is for schools operating within the epicentre of the pandemic.
He said, “Gombe resumption date is still 11th of January, last time due to covid-19 the school calendar had to change. The local epidemiologist has not told me we are in great danger especially if I practice the covid-19 protocols well just like I did when we opened earlier there will be no problem.
“Our school calendar says we are opening on the 11th, Federal government’s guide on 18th is in reference to places like Lagos, FCT, Kaduna, where their surge is quite high but in Gombe schools it is not as bad.”
Dahiru further added that the state is committed to protecting children across the eleven LGA’s, saying that adequate measures have been put to ensure their safety.
“We have set committee on compliance of covid-19 protocols across schools comprising head teacher, health master, health prefect. We will observe the guidelines by ensuring soap and water, facemasks are available. Within the hostels for those living in the school abides,” the commissioner said.
