Gombe NIMC Workers shut state offices, as registrees look on

No fewer than 13 state offices, including 2 special centres of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) were on Thursday, shut down in Gombe state following a communique by Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN).
Confirming the development, to our correspondent, the acting state chairman, who is also in charge of compliance, Aminu Lawan, said they were acting on the orders of the Association geared towards protecting their members from second wave of covid-19.
Lawan noted that the closure will help the union bring to the fore the need for Federal Government to take seriously the salary structure of NIMC staff.
According to the resolution of the congress by Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria NIMC unit, “That staff members were infected with covid-19 and adequate measures have not been taken to curtail the spread. The meeting resolved that safety of staff should be prioritize. Furthermore, the office environment should be fumigated.
“NIMC staff salary structure approved by federal government should be implemented in the personnel appropriation of 2021 annual, while accommodating all arrears accrued from date of presidential approval.
” That the lopsided and irregular done in 2007 and 2020 reviewed, regularized and gazetted in accordance with public service rules.”
The Association further urged the federal government to extend relevant courtesies due to essential workers.
“That the commission officially be gazette as an essential service government agency under the civid-19 taskforce and the benefits accrued to essential service be implemented and paid to beneficiaries on weekly basis- else all staff below level 12 are allowed to stay at home in line with the head of service circular on the subject matter,” the Unit added.
