Gov Yahaya tells Nigeria Legion to assist in tackling security challenges

Gombe state governor, Inuwa Yahaya has tasked the Gombe state chapter of Nigeria legion to mobilize towards providing security support across the eleven LGA’s of the state.
Yahaya disclosed this during an official launch of 2020/2021 Armed Forces Remembrance day and Appeal fund, held at banquet hall, Government House.
The governor, who acknowledged the current security challenges, adding the war veterans have paid their dues through hard work.
Yahaya also made a personal donation of (N1,000,000) and (N5,000,000) on behalf of the state government, pledged to support widows, and children of veterans.
He said, “This occasion which is an annual event is indeed unique especially as we are passing through difficult times in the history of our nation.
“I would therefore like to use this opportunity to salute the courage of our serving officers and men for defending our territorial integrity despite the numerous security challenges bedeviling the Nation.
“In the same vein, let me also call on the members of the Nigerian Legion, Gombe State chapter to fully mobilize their members as a reserve force to assist towards tackling the security challenges in their respective Local Government Areas and to be part and parcel of the Security Architecture of the State.”
While urging peace amongst residents of the state, he added that he will continue to support security agencies to make their work easier.
“I will also like to use this medium to call on the good people of Gombe State to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another irrespective of our differences. On our part, the Government will continue to support security agencies in maintaining law and order in the State,” Yahaya said.
On his part, the commissioner for Internal Security and Ethical Orientation Batari Dauda said “the Armed forces remembrance day presents a unique opportunity for war veterans to be celebrated.”
Speaking earlier, David Kadri, chairman Gombe chapter, Nigeria Legion appealed to the state government to provide scholarship for their children and involvement of not too old veterans into the system.
Kadri also pleaded with the state government to gift members of the chapter seats for holy pilgrimage, appointment into agencies and palliatives.
