Clarion call to Northern Elites, No body can tell our stories better than us
By Comrade Auwal Gombe.
A popular dictum says: He who pays the piper dictates the tune. At a glance of the history of Nigeria, the North has been dominating power at the centre, for over 60 years either via Military dictatorship or through Democratic dispensations but that has not improved the North, it still remains volatile, under reported and silent.
Despite, the fact that the region has a number of extremely wealthy people. It is nostalgic to note that in this 21st century the Northern Elites are still showing lackadaisical attitude about investing in the media, and owning media houses. One can count the few available ones at the tip of the finger.
However, unimpressive and pathetic the issue has turned due to their inability to understand the venom or impact of media in this century.
If you consider how the world has turned to digital economy, where through technology there has been rapid development in day to day running of activities. Communication has become impressive and swift when it comes to gathering of information.
Take a careful study of Global news updates and headlines, it favours those who owns the media houses.
It is worthy of note that some developed countries like America, France and China etc are technologically flamboyant. If we consider how their news stories rapidly spreads you will be astonished. They use their platforms to protect their interests negatively or positively, but we know they churn more positive vibes out that makes a lot of people dream about travelling there for holiday without fear of attacks.
Our Northern Elites have to awaken from their slumber to invest in media houses and look at it critically and holistically due to the impact it has.
Many positive things are happening daily in northern NIGERIA but it is hard to see it make headlines or become an item of discussion on social media.
If we compare it with how little things draw the attention of media houses in some parts of Nigeria you be will surprised.
Northern people have been emasculated due to the lack of standards northern media houses no body knows and no body cares.
We don’t have to be left behind at this technological driven world. We have to tell our own stories, this is because no one can tell your story better than you. There is need for us to employ the use of digitalization in protecting the interests of North and Nigeria at large. Mark you, not by churning falsehood but we understand the issues better, and we can explain well to the betterment of our society.
So the need for the call, appeal to our beloved Northern elders and Elites to massively invest in media by establishing TV and Radio stations so that our North will not be silent at all.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria…
