Covid-19 vaccine: Gombe targets 35,000 in first phase

Gombe State Government on Thursday, announced the delivery of Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine, adequate for 35,000 target in the first phase of the vaccination.
According to Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, the delivery will be in 4 phases, stressing that it is only the governor that can declare the number allotted the state on the day the campaign will be unveiled.
He made this disclosure during briefing of journalists on the receipt of Covid-19 vaccine.
Dahiru disclosed that he has 35,000 target in the first phase with health workers; public, private, military paramilitary, 50 years and above as priority, adding that what was delivered is adequate for the first phase.
When asked the number of Astrazeneca vaccine received Dahiru said, “In Gombe state we have a target of about 35,000 for the first phase and the supply is adequate enough to cover that. The number of dose is confidential. This phase is for health workers, when we are going to phase 2 another delivery will come.
“The immunisation is going to be conducted in phases; the first phase involves health care workers, public and private health facilities, including those at the point of entry, contact tracing, rapid response team.
“During the flag off strategic leaders will be immunised to give more confidence to the people, the vaccine is safe. We are going to announce the doses during the flag off, it is the governor that will say it.”
He added, “Gombe state is in receipt of Covid-19 vaccine as an important vaccine to be administered on the good people of the state. With the sole aim of breaking the circle of transmission of the virus. We all know immunisation is one of the cheapest and safest means of breaking the chains of the disease. The vaccine has 95 percent efficacy.”
