Foundation begins free cancer screening for 200 women in Gombe

Gombe, (NAN) A Non-Governmental Organization, Amen HealthCare and Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with Gombe Local Government Council, has begun free screening of Breast and Cervical cancer for 200 women in the LGA.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony of the exercise,Dr. Habu Dahiru, Gombe state Commissioner of Health, commended the organizers of the programme which he described as timely considering the increase in cases of cancer in the world.
He said by the time cancer symptoms appear, the disease may have begun to spread and hard to treat ,therefore early detection of cancer is important because it is easier to treat.
“The programme is a laudable Initiative because it will go a long way in preventing Cervical and breast cancer among our women by improving early detection,” he said.
He said Amen Care and Empowerment Foundation has been doing a lot in Gombe, calling on other organizations to emulate them.
Malama Hauwa Yuguda, Assistant Programme Officer Amen Health Care and Empowerment Foundation said the programme was in collaboration with Gombe LGC and 200 women would benefit from the programme.
While emphasizing on the importance of the screening, she said the aim was to detect the disease or condition in early stage which increase the chances of survival .
Alh. Aliyu Usman Chairman Gombe LGC, assured women in Gombe LGA of more meaningful programmes which would improve their wellbeing.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar, Senior District Head of Gombe expressed appreciation to the organizers of the programme for conducting the exercise in his community.
