Gombe Gov, Deputy launches 71,340 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccine, says life will return to Normal

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, along side his deputy Dr. Manassah Jatau, and other government officials were amongst those that received AstraZeneca on Wednesday.
Yahaya who declared the number of doses delivered to the state, shortly after taking the jab said the vaccine marks the return to normal life.
He added that the people should endeavour to get vaccinated, stressing that it is safe.
“We are all witnesses to the devastating effects of Covid-19 on lives, economy and livelihoods of our people. The coming of the vaccines signals a return to normal through the gradual lifting of travel and work restrictions.
“I would like to employ all leaders from political office holders, religious and traditional leaders to support the implementation of Covid-19 vaccination across all LGAs in the State.
“The State has received a total of 71,340 doses of the vaccines from the Federal Government tthrough the National Primary Health Care Development Agency . The vaccines have been found to be very safe and certified by the WHO at the international level and NAFDAC here in the Nigeria. As people of faith, we know that healing and protection comes from God alone, but we are also commanded by our religions to take medications and other precautions during periods of ill-health. Vaccinations, just like in the past, have proven to be effective in reducing morbidities and mortalities among our people,” Yahaya said.
The governor who declared that traditional rulers would be vaccinated at their various palaces to encourage their subjects said this batch will cater for the needs of front line workers.
He added, “The first phase of the vaccination program will prioritize healthcare workers in both public and private health facilities. This is in line with global best practices where front-line healthworkers and other associated health personnel are given due priority. Subsequent phases of the vaccination campaign will target persons above 50 years of age, those underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and asthma etc. My decision, and that of other senior government officials to take the vaccine in this phase is to demonstrate confidence in the safety and efficacy of the vaccination program.”
