No fewer than 242 unemployed are to be trained in Gombe by the National Directorate of Employment [NDE], comprising of 220 for Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme [B-NOAS], 20 people across 11 Local Government Areas and 22 others in the Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme [A-NOAS].
Speaking at the induction of the trainees on Monday, Acting Director General of NDE, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said the training would help participants undergo life skills that would support them become self reliant.

Represented by Umar Yusuf, the Acting Director General revealed that the mandate of NDE is to empower Nigerians realise their potentials especially with the current economic situation.
“NDE was created in 1986 but became operational in 1987 due to the economic meltdown in the country. Where we had alot of unemployed due to the meltdown alot of our industries were shutdown and our naira was devalued. With trainings such as this many unemployed can be better empowered,” Fikpo said.
He disclosed that the training is not only limited to skill acquisition but would be geared towards impacting beneficiaries with life long skills to thrive successfully in the global space.
Fikpo added,”This is a life skill training that enable participants to successfully develop basic ethics of what they have learnt. They will better communicate, know themselves and how to relate.
“By life skill training beneficiaries will become independent cognitively without anything bordering you in life.”

Also, State Coordinator, Hassan Mustapha, in his address, urged the beneficiaries to be committed, adding that their success would justify Federal Government’s resources.
He said, “participants for the B-NOAS are expected to be 220; 20 per 11 local government’s of Gombe and they are expected to undergo training in different skills be it computer, tailoring , hair dressing and allied trades that lasts for 3 months just the basic training. At the end of the basic training we have another 22 for A-NOAS the Advanced training in which trainers are expected to further coach them in their chosen fields and if you combine all we have 242.”
Mustapha stressed that each of the participants would benefit a monthly stipend of 2,000 for the period of the training.
“The importance of the training is for them to acquire the skill which will enable them to become self reliant, which is more important than the N2,000 we normally give them every month. They (participants) are expected to be committed to this training to justify the huge investment by government,” Mustapha said.
