Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, says the Federal Government is committed to making the lives of citizens meaningful through the rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Maiduguri Rail corridor.
Saraki made this disclosure in Gombe, when she paid a courtesy visit to Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, before she proceeded to Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Gombe Outreach learning centre for commissioning.
She noted that aside rail transport, the Federal government is committed to revamping the Maritime sector to make life easier.
She said, “The present administration under the dynamic leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has been working assiduously towards revamping the economy, of which transportation is one to make life better for Nigerians.
“The Federal Government through the ministry of transportation has invested huge resources into the revitalisation of infrastructure through remodernisation of the rail line across the country to restore rail service rail line.
“The rehabilitation of Port Harcourt to Gombe, Maiduguri line has commenced as part of Federal Government effort in that direction. The government is also working assiduously towards revamping the Maritime transport through port reforms to make life more meaningful.”
On his part, Gombe State Governor Yahaya, said no human endeavour can successfully thrive without transportation.
He said, “Without transportation the majority of our people who are peasant farmers, located in the rural areas need to transport to the cities not only here but to the rest of the country.
“For anything you need to do you need transportation. So your coming to site the outreach of NITT is very good for us, it is very apt and is going to to help our people. No reasonable manager of human resources would do without transportation. It is very key.”
