Over 4,752 graduates unemployed in the last six years in Gombe – Gov Yahaya

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya on Thursday, lamented the rate of unemployment in the state.
Yahaya made this disclosure while playing host to Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki at the Government House, before proceeding to Kumo for the Inauguration of Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Gombe Outreach learning centre for commissioning.
He stated that the youths constitutes 60 percent of the active population but are unemployed.
Yahaya revealed that even the educated youths are finding it difficult to get a means of livelihood, adding that out of 4,752 who applied for placement 24 are first class products who have been stayed for more than .
Yahaya said, “Recently we set up a portal to find out the numbers. I was shocked when I realized that we have 4,752 graduates that are unengaged. Some for more than 6 years waiting for white collar job.
“24 of them with first class honours and when we extended to OND and NCE holders within the first 24 hours more than 750 have registered. I know by now, it must have gotten to thousands. That means we need to double our efforts what you are bringing to us will help us in finding means and ways we can provide them with means of employment.”
Also, Minister of State for Transportation, Saraki said the Federal Government under Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is working assiduously towards revamping the economy using transportation sector.
She noted that the Institute would help empower interested youths with requisite knowledge.
She said, “The present administration under the dynamic leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has been working assiduously towards revamping the economy, of which transportation is one to make life better for Nigerians.”
